My views on WoW, Part 1

I don't even know where to start...

I started WoW at the end of Vanilla, and just to be clear, this isn't going to be the usual Vanilla scrub rant about how it was better back then. This is going to be my personal views based on what the game has been like for me, what I don't like and what I do like. I just don't know where to start!

Questing.

So, questing, we all have to do it at some point, even trying to level by doing just dungeons, it's pretty much impossible to avoid doing a quest here and there. For me, especially now, I don't care much for the quest text, it's never really done it for me. There was a time, however, that I at least needed to skim read it for locations, because during levelling in TBC, we didn't have the map markers telling you where to go.

If you think about it, it was better. Part of the questing experience should be to explore and figure things out, but with the map markers we've had since I think Lich King, we have no need to figure anything out, we just follow the markers and do the quests. For me, picking out key location information form the quest text was a much more involved way of questing.

Level Scaling.

Hate it. In the past, I had multiple alts, levelling an alt in the past wasn't punishing. This started to change with every expansion launch. Sometimes it wasn't because it was hard, but there was certain things that put me off. Consider WoD for example, there was no way I could put myself through levelling alts, because I knew how much I hated WoD and the Garrison, no way was I willing to level up alts because I knew i'd have to go through all that trash again, no thanks!

Here we are in Legion, and the new level scaling, scaling zones that are supposed to make levelling less linear and give you more options on how and where you level. It's a load of trash, it doesn't work, it takes longer, I know this because I'm attempting to level an alt at the moment. Even with heirlooms, it simply takes more to level. In my opinion, they need to up the amount of XP from mob kills and quests, it needs to be faster. If they want to keep the scaling then so be it, but the minimum they need to do is increase XP gains, because right now, it's the one of the worst WoW experiences i've ever faced.

I do like how we can go where we want, i'll give Blizz that tick, but it's not perfect, please, increase XP gains!

One other thing i'd like to see, is making it so we don't have to do WoD whilst levelling, we can skip Outland or Northrend and do one or the other, so please, just let us skip Draenor, it's the one thing i'm dreading when levelling. Words can't describe how much I truly hate that place.

Achievements.

What could possibly be wrong with achievements? Well, back when they were first launched, it was fun, they were trivial things mostly, but over time they've become part of raid requirements. How many times have you seen some tool spamming trade chat with "link curve"?

They've become a bit of a pain, and these fools spamming trade with it don't even realise how pointless it is, because at the same time they are asking for it, you have these other morons asking for gold to take you to a raid to get said curve achievement. You could buy the achievement, and then join one of these self important pugs, without having any idea what you are doing.

They need to remove these curve achievements, or change them, make them only available to the first 5-10 guilds on each server, once they've got them, they are no longer obtainable. By all means keep the mounts on the bosses, but the curve thing needs to go, it's no longer relevant.

iLvl.

Possibly the worst thing to come out of any expansion, and it all started with Lich Babies and gear score. The plague that was adopted by Blizz, one of the worst things they ever did. It's irrelevant and pointless.

Let's just say a group is being formed, and they are asking for a minimum iLvl, that's fine and that is up to them, but they haven't thought it through. It's very easy to gear up, you can even have a fresh lvl 110 character that you have spent absolutely no time on, no experience, never healed or tanked a raid, but you meet the iLvl requirement. You are able to join this raid, and have a terrible time, get kicked and do it all over again.

I know this is frowned upon, but people do still do it, you could also be playing a paid for character, again, you have no experience playing that class, but the above applies here too. The system has become irrelevant, and we have Lich Babies to thank for it.

Solution? Remove iLvl, it's that simple, let people inspect if they want, but remove iLvl.

Part 2 coming soon.
